A two hundred plus year old vampire, Angel terrified the civilised world as the evil-to-the-core Angelus for many years in the nineteenth century, with his vampire sire Darla by his side and the unlikely couple of Spike and Drusilla along for the ride.

When Angel feasted on a gypsy girl Darla brought home one evening, Angel couldn't have known that the girl's grieving family would put a curse on Angel, restoring his soul and with it his conscience, filling him instantly with over a hundred years of guilt and remorse for the terrible things he'd done.

Drifting through the decades in quiet contemplation, Angel's life was forever changed when a demon guide known as Whistler pointed him Buffy's way, telling him she'd need someone on her side with what she had to face. In time, the two became lovers, but as I'm sure we know by now that never ends well...

Relocating to Los Angeles and starting up a detective firm with the catchy motto 'we help the helpless,' Angel found that his new foe was a powerful law firm with demonic owners called Wolfram & Hart, but after four years battling them he and his team were given the surprise offer to run the LA branch of Wolfram & Hart - an exercise in 'power corrupts,' it would seem.

Angel didn't play ball the way W&H's Senior Partners wanted, and after losing his colleague Fred to the demon God Illyria, Angel decided enough was enough and mounted an offensive on the Circle Of The Black Thorn, destroying the demonic criminal network in one night and bringing down the wrath of W&H's armies onto the depleted team.

Defeat seemed certain, and as we left the Fang Gang in that alley, it seemed the Good Fight was well and truly over...

     



When it came down to the fight, Team Angel lost. Unable to stop the Failsafe army from ravaging LA, the team were saved only when Angel made a Faustian deal with Holland Manners to restore the city. Their confidence in his leadership broken, Spike, Illyria and new arrival Skye left to form their own team, leaving Angel to fend for himself.

Wolfram & Hart transported a fearsome adversary to LA to help them in their fight - the near-invincible Keeper, who easily bested Angel as he tried to draw his team back together. Reconciling with Spike, rescuing Wesley from a hell dimension and teaming up with fellow freedom fighters Taylor and Sonia, Angel took up the fight once more...

.. but when Connor was targeted by the Keeper, Angel was forced to pull out all the stops to try and defend his son, all to no avail when Angel's girlfriend Nina was kidnapped and gave up Connor's hidden location. In a vicious siege battle that wrecked the Hyperion, Taylor fell in battle and Connor was killed right before Angel's eyes by the Keeper himself.
     



Trapped in his own subconscious thanks to the shock of what happened, Angel was finally woken by unlikely hero Kirsten - former lover of disgraced Wolfram & Hart CEO James Kitridge and now the team's newest ally. With her help, the team managed to rescue a group of 'gifted' youngers with paranormal powers from Wolfram & Hart's clutches, sheltering them at the Hyperion.

Lindsey MacDonald, meanwhile, got his hands on a magical sword and plotted once more to take care of Angel forever. And all was not well back at the hotel- a new mystical drug named Priori was running rampant through Los Angeles, and as she struggled with the grief of losing her boss and boyfriend in the same night, Sonia became addicted to the substance - which triggered some kind of dramatic change in her body, pushing her to the brink of death before mutating her into something altogether inhuman...

First Kate Lockley rolled into town at the head of an FBI task force dedicated to smashing Priori's grip on the city, and then Lorne returned to deliver some dire news - Wolfram & Hart's endgame had begun, and the final Apocalypse was near! The team rallied to face this threat, only to suffer a crushing defeat at the hands of the demonic Horsemen and receive another blow - Angel has become human!
