Italian born, British raised Sofia Romero was rescued from a demon auction by Xander and Giles, spending some time in Cleveland as she learned more of the Slayer trade fighting alongside Buffy. Seeing the Academy as the ideal place to develop her skills and abilities, Sofia is a natural leader with her self confidence and cool head under pressure already having gotten her out of plenty of trouble!
Former Cleveland High art student Skye didn't know she was a Slayer when a vampire attack turned her into some kind of hybrid - a Slayer and a vampire! Changing her surname when she was sent to LA, and spending six months working with Angel, Skye had just started a relationship with Spike when events in LA took a downward turn, and she accepted the offer to join the Academy in an attempt to find her feet again.

The Academy itself was founded by the late Rupert Giles, using a combination of Council funds and donations from several like-minded organisations to purchase and renovate an abandoned private school in England, his mission statement being to provide an environment where the new Slayer line could learn more about their new powers, and the responsibilities that come with them.

With Syn's activation of the Hub (in the Buffy movie 'Original Syn'), countless Hellmouths the world over have been either reactivated or opened, and this is where the Slayer Academy girls come in. Their job is to find the new Hellmouths and close them for good, defeating any threats to the world that they meet along the way and doing what they can to keep the planet safe from evil.
Tragedy struck on the very first day, when bubbly Texan Emma Preston was murdered by a vicious dream demon that would plague the girls throughout the term, and the arrival of a group of rogue Slayers led by powerful dark witch Kira Brogan just added to the girl's problems - and another one of their own fell in battle when new Slayer Keeya Mandisa was killed by psychotic rogue Slayer Dana Wells, operating as Kira's hitwoman.

Kira eventually made her move on the Academy, supporting an attack by several demon clans that very nearly tore the Academy to the ground - only the timely intervention of Initiative reinforcements turned the tide of the battle, driving the demons and rogue Slayers off. The battle was not without cost, as Frankie, Alita and Debbie were all hospitalised with serious injuries. A surprise new arrival of a young man demonstrating Slayer powers has added to the intrigue - just who or what exactly was Braeden Donovan?

The answer took its time in revealing itself, during which time the Academy faced its fair share of fresh troubles - the return of Roland's vampire cult and their sinister plans for Skye, and then the brutal murder of one of their own when Heidi was found dead - and Skye became the chief suspect! She went on the run while her innocence was proven, thanks to the help of her friends and the tough interrogation of the captive Delaney Brogan.
That was the least of the Academy's troubles, however, as a rescue mission by Kira coincided with a series of shock defections that left the Academy in pieces - new recruit Darcie stole several valuable Codexes and wounded Frankie in the process, Jaz and new Watcher Bryce switched sides in a move which left Alita's could-be boyfriend Tyson dead, and finally Braeden himself betrayed everyone, leaving the broken-hearted Sofia as he fled with Kira and her team.

Roland's cult finally made their move in the weeks that followed, kidnapping Skye and revealing that after using samples of her blood and DNA to create anti-Slayer weaponry, they needed to sacrifice her to grant all of his followers with her ability to walk in sunlight! The plan was foiled at the last moment, with Erika bravely sacrificing her sight to save Skye's life - and Braeden defecting again, this time to join his true masters, the mysterious Cabal!

The Cabal's plan was simple - using a Hub located in the depths of the Arctic, they planned to unlock every Hellmouth in the world, sealed or otherwise. The battered Slayers mobilised to defeat them, but in a series of showdowns in the Arctic depths both Alita and Delaney were left missing, presumed dead, while Sofia was shot by Braeden and last seen by anyone being carried away in his arms...
The truth soon emerged - Sofia was now working for the Cabal! With Braeden assembling a team to help him track and murder Slayers all over the world, the Academy found itself up against the wall - continued Cabal offensives wore it down, with schemes to first create an army of cloned demons and then to distribute Slayer-weakening weapons to any vamp and demon who wanted one!

After a Cabal raid left several people dead - including Alita by Sofia's own hand - Sofia was captured and interrogated, divulging plenty of information to allow the Academy to take the fight back to the Cabal. With their clone demon factories smashed, it took one last all-out offensive against the Cabal's Arctic HQ to shut them down, with Braeden dead and Sofia vanishing in the aftermath for parts unknown.

However, a sting in the tale showed that the Cabal had another plan up their sleeve - a mystical poison, transferred to the Slayers when Sofia killed Braeden with the Scythe. With roughly six months before every Slayer in the world succumbs to the deadly virus, the Academy's only hope lies in locating Sofia and the Scythe so that a cure can be found...
